Getting married
in the Dominican Republic

Your honest, expert guide to planning a destination wedding in the Dominican Republic — from legal questions to the right season.

Getting Married in the Dominican Republic

Beautiful is easy.

Done right takes a local.

A Dominican wedding can be legal, symbolic or both — the right path depends on your nationalities, paperwork and timeline. The questions couples ask us most:

Can foreigners legally marry in the Dominican Republic?

Yes. International couples can marry legally in the DR. The process requires apostilled and translated documents — many couples choose a symbolic ceremony here and complete the legal marriage at home. We advise the cleanest path for your situation.

Legal ceremony or symbolic ceremony?

A symbolic ceremony offers the most freedom — any location, officiant or format — with the legal marriage handled in your home country. A legal ceremony in the DR is possible but needs more lead time for documents.

What documents do we need?

Typically valid passports, apostilled birth certificates, and (if relevant) divorce or death certificates — all officially translated into Spanish. We provide a personalised checklist early in the process.

Do our guests need anything special to travel?

Most visitors enter on a standard tourist entry and a valid passport. We provide a guest information pack covering travel, transfers, accommodation and what to expect.

Investment

Typical Wedding

Investments.

Every celebration is different, but most couples appreciate having a realistic starting point.

  • Small Weddings & Elopementsfrom USD 15'000.-
  • Wedding Day Celebrationsfrom USD 50'000.-
  • Multi-Day Destination Weddingstypically from USD 75'000.-

Luxury villa celebrations often exceed this depending on guest count, accommodation and guest experiences.

When to Plan Your Wedding

Timing shapes everything.

Light, weather and price.
DEC – APR

Peak Season

Perfect weather. Highest demand.

Dry, sunny and reliably warm — the most popular window for weddings. Book venues 12–18 months ahead.

MAY – AUG

Warm & Lush

Beautiful light and quieter venues.

Greener landscapes, brief afternoon showers and excellent value. Beautiful golden-hour light.

SEP – NOV

Quiet Season

Excellent value with smart planning.

Fewer crowds and flexible pricing. We monitor tropical weather closely and build smart contingency plans.

As a rule of thumb: begin planning 12–18 months ahead for a full destination weekend, and 6–9 months for an intimate celebration or elopement.

Good to Know

Before you start planning.

Things we wish every couple knew.
  • Don't book flights before choosing your venue.
  • Guest count changes everything.
  • Legal weddings require additional preparation.
  • Weather matters — but not always in the way you think.
  • The best venues book far earlier than most couples expect.

Investment & Insights

Honest expectations,

beautifully managed.

Every wedding is bespoke, so there are no fixed packages — but transparency matters. These help you plan with confidence before we tailor a proposal to your vision.

How much does a destination wedding in the DR cost?

It depends on guest count, venue type and the level of detail. Intimate celebrations and elopements can be remarkably efficient, while multi-day villa weekends are a larger investment. We give you realistic figures early — never vague promises.

What does your planning fee include?

Depending on the experience you choose: venue sourcing, vendor curation and coordination, design guidance, timeline and logistics, guest experience, and on-site management. You'll always know exactly what is and isn't included.

How do payments and retainers work?

Once your planning service is confirmed, an agreement and initial retainer secure your date and begin the collaboration. Vendor payments are scheduled transparently across the planning timeline.

Can you work within our budget?

Yes — within reason and with honesty. We'll tell you early what's realistic for your vision and guest count, and where smart choices create the biggest impact.
